Doctor Jacques works and teach at the Geophysics Department of Universidad de Concepción, in addition with the Center for Climate Resilience Research where he is the principal investigator of the coastal zones.

Martín Jacques Coper
Geophysicist & Climatologist

Martin Jacques is originally from Valdivia, Chile. He got his BSc and MSc degrees in Geophysics at the Universidad de Chile and holds a PhD in Climate Sciences from the University of Bern, Switzerland. His research interests include climate variability and dynamics, with special focus on the Southern Hemisphere and South America. In particular, his thesis dealt with multi-scale summer temperature fluctuations in Patagonia during the 20th century and associated drivers. Furthermore, he has also been involved in climate studies devoted to the assessment of renewable energy sources. After post-doctoral and professional experience at University of Bern and MeteoSwiss, respectively, he currently works at the Geophysics Department, Universidad de Concepción, Chile. He is principal investigator of the Coastal Zones research line at the Center for Climate and Resilience Research, (CR)2. His ongoing research subjects involve the temperature modulation in Chile by the Madden-Julian Oscillation, tropical-extratropical interactions leading to extreme events -such as heat waves and wildfires- in Central Chile, and teleconnections that induce climate co-variability between Oceania and Southern South America on different timescales.
