Architectural Treasures
Medieval to Modern

Prague is a veritable encyclopedia of stunning architecture dating from the 9th Century to today:  from Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Rococo, Renaissance, Neo-renaissance, Bohemian and Cubist (not found anywhere else), Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Czech Functionalism–to contemporary styles from world renowned architects. Through the ages Prague was recognized for its splendid architecture and was spared the worst even from marauding invasions and brutal wars. These layers of surviving structures beside more modern and constant additions result in the beautiful collage that defines Prague as an architectural gem.

Visits to Brno with its many Czech Functionalist buildings as well as Mies van der Rohe’s Tugendhat Villa, and a half-day trip to a Skanzen (and outdoor museum Czech Folk Houses) are included.

Participants will also enjoy some of the spectacular interiors of many of these marvels. The historical and humanistic context of each building and of the architects that designed them, turn the stone and mortar into living structures.
