Francisco Rivera lives in Codpa Valley, which is part of the municipalidad of Camarones, a valley that cross from the hightlands of the Altiplanic chilean north lands to the ocean.

Francisco Rivera Bustos, is Aymara from father and mother. His life has been lived as part and leader of the Aymara community settled in the valleys of Codpa and Camarones, in the region of Arica and Parinacota, Chile. Cultural practice and safeguarding the identity of this people has always been part of his life and work.

He currently works in the municipality of the Camarones commune, supporting the mayor’s office as in charge of Productive Development Office, supporting environmental, agricultural and livestock matters. He is currently workingto make visible the spaces of the territory that are or could become agri-food reserves. The new climate scenario has recently affected the streams where these localities are located, so any improvement in the area of adaptability and local development will be welcome, as long as the community development of the Aymara people is preserved.

Francisco Rivera Bustos is has been a cultural promotor since his youth, being member and founder of the chilean Dancing and folk chants group Huaynas de Arica Cultists. As an aymara leader was a founder of Codpa Social and Cultural group of Codpa in 1980. In addition to the cultural work, mister Rivera became in a politic leader by founding the Indigenous Community of Codpa town the year 1992, short after the first democratic government in chile after the militar regime. As one of the leaders of the community have contributed to connect the valley of codpa with the governance local instances. In 2009 became a member of the literature movement Rapsodas Fundacionales in Arica city.

Rivera is member of the counsil for culture, arts and heritage for the chilean region Arica and Parinacota. And have been elected in 2007 as spokeperson for the aymara’s parliament,  an international instance that advocate for the indigina’s right in four countries (Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina). From 2008 to 2011 was national counselor and indigenous represent within the Chilean State, advising in favor of the respect for the aymara culture, the territorial presence and cultural identity, and recognize as natural environment protectors and traditional authorities for the followings instances of education, culture and health activities, between others.

Francisco Rivera is an activist for the recognizement of Qhapaq Ñam route for the Andean anceltral paths, and was the organizer of the first congress of culture, art and indigenous technology at the Region.

Francisco and The Future School have been working toguether to host students for Climate Change Advocacy program, in addition of developing projects towards the protection of the natural environments and the education for Climate Change.
